Sugar and Carbohydrates

As many of you may already know, carbohydrates are complex sugars ready to happen. A kind of ” time release ” form of sugar that’s on standby until you deplete existing sugars. Imagine, your pancreas is constantly working, never ever being able to take a break. What would happen to us if we were constantly working unable to take a break….? Exactly! We would collapse and stop working. That’s exactly what happens to the pancreas, it collapses from overwork and stops working.

Our bodies are not designed to burn sugar  for energy. That’s what we do constantly-we burn sugar. Because we have abundant supplies of sugar which we continuously ingest on a daily bases, The pancreas works diligently supplying insulin.

Our bodies are actually designed to burn fat for energy, not sugar. Because we are continuously eating sugar the body never gets to the fat and so we store it in our bodies. That’s why obesity is a major problem in our society today that continues to grow.

When your body gets tired, a message goes to your brain,”alert! body needs energy.” Your brain then scans your body and notices that it’s loaded with insulin because of all the sugar. The brain will not signl the body to burn fat as long as all that sugar and insulin is in there. So the command goes out “hungry! get something to eat-quick!

Can a “health food” eaten by millions really be dangerous?

Canola oil and its derivative, rapeseed, are primary suspects for the exceptionally high incidence of Asian lung cancer[1].

According to mainstream media though, canola oil is “good for the heart” offering viable monounsaturated fats similar to olive oil. Sadly, much of what we hear in the mainstream media and various “health” blogs has been influenced by aggressive marketing tactics of big food companies.

For this reason, it is critical to know what websites to avoid and where you can go to get trustworthy and accurate health information.

In order to understand how canola oil came into the marketplace, some historical background is needed.

A Bit of History on Canola Oil

We can trace olive oil back to olives and sesame seed oil back to sesame seeds, so wouldn’t it make sense that canola oil would come from canola seeds? Well, it’s not the case. There is no natural canola plant that produces canola oil.

In the late 1960s canola oil was invented in Canada. The oil was cheap to manufacture and a dominant ingredient in many processed foods. A derivative of the rapeseed plant, which is part of the mustard family of plants, canola oil has been hybridized to eliminate the lethal erucic acid found in rapeseed.

Olive oil was the product of choice among those who were health conscious; however, it was quite expensive to mass produce. So the food industry, needing a more affordable substitute, started selling rapeseed oil. Unfortunately, the rapeseed oil caused muscular heart lesions.

The erucic acid found in rapeseed oil is naturally poisonous to the degree that insects avoid it. Rapeseed oil is also the source of the notorious chemical warfare agent[2], mustard gas. The US banned rapeseed in 1956 when thousands of soldiers and civilians experienced blistered lungs and skin. Rapeseed oil also lubricated steam engines and ships due to its unique ability to adhere to wet metal.

In 1964, the food industry collaborated with both the chemical and nuclear industries[3] in an attempt to reduce the toxicity levels of rapeseed. It took the food industry over a decade and a tremendous amount of genetic engineering to get rapeseed oil to be acceptable to the US market.

The late 1970s introduced a technique of genetic treatment involving cracking open seeds.[4] Canadian plant breeders developed a variation of rapeseed that produced a monounsaturated oil low in erucic acid.

The name was changed to LEAR: Low Eruric Acid Rapeseed. LEAR was not well received in the US as its association with rapeseed was too glaring. Not to mention having the word “rape” in a product name, which did not promote a healthy image.

In 1978 the food industry merged the words “Canada” and “ola” meaning oil – creating the name Canola Oil.

The Impact of Canola on the Food Industry

Prior to the late 1970s, the food oil industry collaborated with the American Heart Association, departments of nutrition at major universities and numerous government agencies to advocate polyunsaturated oils[5] as being heart healthy. This was in contrast to the false hardening of the arteries effect of saturated fats.

However, by the late 1970s/early 80s, the cooking oil industry in North America had a huge dilemma. The consumption of polyunsaturated oils – corn and soybean oils in particular – were directly connected to numerous inflammatory health complications: namely cancer and heart disease.

Subsequently, as a result of this problem, the food industry had to discontinue using large volumes of polyunsaturated oils and no longer made claims of the oils being healthy.

Furthermore, manufacturers would not resume the use of traditional “healthy” saturated fats – butter, lard, tallow, palm oil and coconut oil mainly due to their narrow profit margins.

During the early 1980s canola oil began an initial marketing campaign in the United States. In order to receive a full green light to move forward, the oil needed GRAS (generally regarded as safe) approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

GRAS rating awards typically go to food and herbal products with a history of no known adverse effects. However, canola oil was a new product that had no previous history (although it was associated with a banned product known for having lethal side effects). On the other hand, rapeseed oil was never granted GRAS approval.

A change in the regulation needed to take place before canola oil could be marketed in the US. We still do not know exactly what happened, but GRAS was granted to canola oil in 1985. The rumor mill churned such tales citing that the Canadian government, as a result, had a $50 million deficit in their coffers.

Originally canola oil was invented through basic laboratory breeding and selection techniques.  Nevertheless, in 1995 a major alteration launched a canola that was genetically engineered[6] to contain bacterial DNA that would make it resistant to toxic herbicides (Roundup).

Genetically modified crops are a combination of the DNA of two or more different species that cannot naturally reproduce together (like a chicken and a celery stalk). Such “frankenfood” could never occur in nature, even by random mutation. Today, most canola oil comes from genetically engineered seeds that are so far deviated from the natural rapeseed that it can be patented.

Around 82 percent of the world’s canola crops are currently genetically engineered to resist Roundup. Monsanto presently owns patents on the Roundup-Ready canola seed and farmers can be sued for not using the seed or having “unauthorized” canola plants in their fields.

It is also next to impossible for farmers (organic or otherwise) to battle the superweeds that are evolving in reaction to constant massive doses of Roundup[7].

The Effects of Canola Oil on the Body

Even though it may be true that canola oil is high in monounsaturates (canola oil ranges between 55 – 65 percent monounsaturated fat and between 28 – 35 percent polyunsaturated fat, with only a minimal amount of saturated fat), canola oil is still anything but healthy.

The polyunsaturated component of canola is cause for major concern. The oil is extremely unstable under heat, light and pressure, which causes oxidation and releases free radicals inside the body.

Canola oil produces high levels of butadiene[8], benzene, acrolein, formaldehyde and other related compounds when heated, which become infused with the cooked food. All traces of omega-3 fats are essentially gone.

Moreover, in the chart below you’ll see that canola oil undergoes a heavy duty manufacturing process of abrasive refining, degumming, bleaching, and deodorization, using high heat and questionable chemicals before the final product is created.[9]
A study released in 1996 by Japanese scientists[10] showed that a special canola oil diet killed laboratory animals. Reacting to the unpublished, but verified and alarming information, the study was repeated by Canadian scientists this time using piglets and replacing milk with canola oil. In 1997, Nutrition Research published the second study results, where researchers verified that canola oil drained vitamin E from the piglets to hazardously low levels.[11]

Vitamin E must be in the body when eating processed fats because it controls the oxidative degeneration of lipids and blocks free radicals from invading the cell membranes.

To Sum it All Up

If you have watched the Quest for the Cures Continues 11-part docu-series, one thing I hope you learned is that you want to eat foods as close to nature as possible. The caustic manufacturing process of canola should alone be enough to cause you to avoid this toxic oil.

In addition, canola oil inflames your body with foreign, genetically engineered DNA, trans fats, and toxic chemical residues. It is also a plague on the environment and a threat to organic farming and should be avoided.

Recommendations for Healthier Fats and Oils:

  • Extra virgin olive oil that is cold pressed – conducts best under lower cooking temperatures.
  • Virgin coconut oil – cooks well under a wide range of temperatures. Offers an abundance of healthy saturated fats in the form of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), one being lauric acid which helps support the immune system.
  • Organic grass-fed butter or ghee – a great source of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) which has shown in studies to help prevent cancer, build muscle and burn fat. Both ghee and butter are very stable under high temperatures as well.

If you haven’t noticed already, you will see that canola oil is used in almost all prepared foods at health food stores. Please speak out to the owners, when possible, to see if they will switch to a healthier oil or use no oil at all. Most importantly, please share this critical information with friends and family.

Ketogenic diet Diabetes weight loss

Did You Know?

Before the invention of insulin in the 1920’s, the ketogenic diet was the mainstay treatment for diabetes.

In 1923, Osler and McCrae in the Principles and Practice of Medicine recommended that diabetics eat “meats, poultry, game, fish, clear soups, gelatin, eggs, butter, olive oil, coffee, tea” and that a diabetes diet should contain approximately 5% of energy from carbohydrates, 20% from protein, and 75% from fat.

The low-fat, high-carbohydrate way of eating that has been widely promoted as the ideal diet for weight loss and disease prevention is largely responsible for fueling the diabetes epidemic.  It’s true that excess weight is a risk factor for diabetes, and the rising incidence of diabetes closely parallels the expanding waistline of Americans.  But contrary to conventional thinking, increase girth and excess pounds appear to be a direct result of consuming a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet.

Researchers at Duke university Medical Center assigned 84 patients to one of two diets. The first, called a “ketogenic diet,” restricted carbohydrate intake to 20 or fewer grams per day, a radical amount compared to the ADA’s (American Diabetes Association )  recommended daily minimum of  130 grams and even to low-carb advocate  Dr. Richard K. Bernstein’s 30 grams-per-day recommendation.

In a ketogenic diet, the body is forced to use fat to provide energy, a process that produces a metabolic product called ketones.

The other diet stresses the consumption of low-glycemic foods, which are absorbed slowly by the body and do not cause spikes in blood sugar levels. The diet also severely restricted daily caloric intake to 500 calories. That drastically low number came about because the study was designed to test intense approaches to treating obese people with diabetes whose previous forms of diet and management had not worked.

Although both diets produced substantial improvements in patients, the ketogenic diet was clearly more effective. While Duke researchers did not always spell out the actual measurements produced by each diet, they said that the ketogenic group enjoyed low A1 cs, greater weight loss, and a larger increase in “good” cholesterol compared to the low-glycemic group.

The medical center quoted Dr. Eric C. Westman, who led the study, as saying, “It’s simple. If you cut out carbohydrates, your blood sugar goes down and you lose weight, which lowers your blood sugar even further. It’s a one-two punch.” In fact, reports Reuters, the Duke reasearchers concluded that “lifestyle modification using low carbohydrate interventions is effective for improving and reversing type 2 disbetes.

 

Ashwaganda Root

Ashwagandha or “Indian ginseng,” has been a staple of Ayurvedic medicine for over 3000 years. The herb has a wide range of activity that promotes physical and mental health, body rejuvenation, and longevity. It is known to inhibit anxiety and improve energy. In certain cases, ashwagandha may also promote healthy fertility.

Ashwagandha for Energy

Long distance cycling is an endurance sport that requires aerobic fitness and energy. Many products have been developed to provide energy in a quick, easy form: gel packets, energy chews, sports drinks, and more. Generally, these products just provide extra calories, which are necessary if you’re expending energy, but do nothing to actually support physical ability.

In 2012, the Faculty of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy at India’s Guru Nanak Dev University conducted an eight week study in which forty elite cyclists supplemented with ashwagandha. By the study’s conclusion, significant enhancements in both cardiovascular and respiratory endurance were reported.

Perhaps even more importantly, research out of Malaysia found that when Ashwagandha root extract was regularly administered to persons receiving chemotherapy, it had potential to relieve related fatigue and improve their quality of life.

 

Cognitive Benefits of Ashwagandha

In Ayurvedic medicine, one of the main uses of ashwagandha root extract is to enhance memory and improve brain function. One of the mechanisms responsible for this effect is Ashwagandha’s antioxidant action. Since oxidative stress contributes to neurodegenerative disorders, lessening oxidative damage may offer neuroprotection.

Multiple studies have been performed to evaluate the neuroprotective properties of Ashwagandha root extract on rats and found that it helps to prevent some instances of memory impairment and oxidative stress of the brain.

 

Ashwagandha to Relieve Stress

Stress affects both mind and body and can be a strain that leads to underperformance. Most people will also testify that stress reduces quality of life. Ashwagandha has been documented in Ayurvedic and Greek medicine for its stress-combating properties.

The Department of Neuropsychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry at India’s Asha Hospital orchestrated a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving sixty-four subjects with a history of chronic stress. After separating the participants into control and study groups, the study group began supplementing with high-concentration, full-spectrum Ashwagandha extract. After two months, the study group reported significant improvements in all stress measurements and quality of life; all without serious side effects.

Ashwagandha-Stress and Male Fertility

Additionally, stress is known to be a contributing factor for male infertility. Along with Tribulus terrestris, Ashwagandha is prized for its stimulating effects on fertility.

 

Tribulus Terrestris: Herbal Aphrodisiac

Ayurvedic medicine, plants and extracts are used as herbal remedies for a multitude of health problems, including sexual disorders. For this, Tribulus terrestris is one of the preferred herbal aphrodisiacs. [1] The use of Tribulus terrestris is not limited to India, as the therapeutic plant has been a staple of traditional and folk medicine in Turkey, China, and other countries. Used to enhance energy, stamina, and sexual function, Tribulus is believed to stimulate the libido and support normal testosterone levels.

\How Does Tribulus Terrestris Work?

Tribulus contains a compound called protodioscin. Protodioscin is a precursor to testosterone production and is also thought to dilate blood vessels. Dilated blood vessels allow for greater blood flow. When more blood is able to reach the penis, more healthy and full erections may result. Many animal studies involving Tribulus terrestris have repeatedly demonstrated its ability to normalize testosterone levels and reduce the occurrence of impotence.
The Effects of Tribulus Terrestris in Animal Models
When National University of Singapore evaluated the effect of Tribulus terrestris on rabbits, it was reported that testosterone and DHT levels increased. Some have interpreted this as evidence for its usefulness in mild to moderate cases of erectile dysfunction.

Researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences administered an extract of Tribulus terrestris to sexually sluggish male rats and observed increases in the frequency of erection.  After conducting a similar experiment, improvements in sexual activity and erectile function were also reported by Korea’s Sungkyunkwan University.

Additionally, Tribulus terrestris may work in tandem with other herbal aphrodisiacs and energizers. A study performed by the Department of Urology at Gyeongsang National University School of Medicine in Korea found that a combination of Tribulus terrestris and Calendula officinalis helped improve erectile function in animals.  The Department of Biochemistry at C.S.M. Medical University conducted a study involving sixty infertile men who, however, did have normal sperm production. Participants were given five grams of Ashwagandha root powder every day for three months. At thestudy’s conclusion, stress reductions and improvements in semen quality were observed in many of the participants and 14% of the participants’ partners ended up becoming pregnant.

Alkaline Baking Soda Maple Syrup

How to Alkaline with ease.

Germs consume sugar to generate energy and grow but it cannot live in an alkaline body. Due to our bad acidic diet, the pH of bodies are acidic.  Desired is 7.4. Too high is 8.2+.

An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur.

An acidic balance will: decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it’s ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it’s ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness. A BLOOD pH of 6.9, which is only slightly acidic, can induce coma and death.

By taking 1-2 tsp of Maple Syrup/Baking Soda regularly, I can maintain oral and urine pH around 7.4-7.8. This is the easiest way to boost pH in my body. If you have problems digesting food due to chemo and high pH, take some digestive enzymes and probiotics.  Everybody should alkaline.

The trogen alkaline horse

The sugar in the maple syrup is bounded with alkaline. If cancer cells or germs take in the sugar, the hidden alkaline will weaken or destroy it.

Trader Joe’s organic grade B maple syrup 3 parts. Bob’s Red Mill baking soda 1 part (this is aluminum free unlike Arm & Hammer).

Heat the maple syrup to a warm temperature to dissolve the baking soda (this need not be at a boil). Once warmed, stir in the baking soda for 5 minutes. Example: 90 tsp syrup, 30 tsp baking soda. Store this at room temperature. Make enough for 10 days, beyond which mold may grow.

The syrup/bicarbonate complex is brought into cancer cells or candida where it alters pH to uan unfavorable alkaline level.

For cancer patients use 5-7 teaspoons per day divided.

For candida or pH control use 3 teaspoons per day.

Tasty alkalinization and good health.

Graviola Forte

Overview and ApplicationsSoursop or Graviola is native to the Amazon rainforest; a small tree growing up to 15 feet (5 meters) tall; it is much sought after for its delicious fruit.
However, Graviola bark, leaves, root, and fruits have also been used as traditional remedies in South America for many centuries.
There is ongoing cancer-research on this plant concerning the specific phytochemicals (Annonaceous acetogenins) that are demonstrating the strongest anticancer and antiviral properties.
Extracts have been shown to have antiviral, antiparasitic, antirheumatic, astringent, emetic, antileishmanial and cytotoxic effects. Graviola has also been shown to be effective against multi-drug resistant cancer cell lines.
Graviola seems to effectively target and kills malignant cells in more than 10 different types of cancer, including colon, breast, prostate, lung, and pancreatic cancer.
It is believed to be far stronger in killing colon cancer cells than Adriamycin® (Doxorubicin hydrochloride), a chemotherapy given as treatment for certain types of cancer. It may be a natural alternative as such for traditional cancer treatments.
Graviola hunts down selectively – and kills cancer cells without harming healthy cells; unlike chemotherapy that indiscriminately seeks and destroys all actively reproducing cells – (even normal, healthy ones).

The acetogenins (natural chemicals) are found to be responsible for that important activity.
In a plant screening program by the National Cancer Institute, the leaves and stem of Graviola showed active cytotoxicity against cancer cells.
Focus of the research was on a novel set of phytochemicals (annonaceous acetogenins).
The Annonaceous acetogenins are only found in the Annonaceae family.
Fractionation of the leaves resulted in the isolation of two new Annonaceous acetogenins, muricoreacin and murihexocin C. These compounds showed significant cytotoxicities among six human tumor cell lines with selectivities to the prostate adenocarinoma (PC-3) and pancreatic carcinoma (PACA-2) cell lines.
The antitumor, properties of these annonaceous acetogenins have been reported.
Researchers reported that the Annonaceous acetogenin, bullatacin, preferentially killed multi-drug resistant cancer cells because it blocked production of adenosine triphosphate, ATP (the chief energy-carrying compound).
However the Annonaceous acetogenins also appear in other species from this family such asAnnona Montana.
Over 350 of these acetogenins have been isolated from 37 species.Some of the Annonaceous acetogenins are not only effective in killing tumors that have proven resistant to anti- cancer agents, but also seem to have a special affinity for such resistant cells.
Surviving cancer cells from chemotherapy may develop resistance to the agent originally used against them as well as to other, even unrelated, drugs (multi-drug resistance or MDR).
The fruit and the leaves of Annona muricata are used in traditional medicine for their tranquillizing and sedative properties.
Extracts of the plant have been shown results that imply that the fruit possesses anti-depressive effects, possibly induced by three alkaloids, annonaine (1), nomuciferine (2) and asimilobine (3), isolated from the fruit.
Fractionation of the leaves resulted in the isolation of annopentocins A B and C and cis- and trans-annomuricin-D-ones.
Compound 1 was selectively cytotoxic to pancreatic carcinoma cells (PACA-2), and 2 and 3 were selectively cytotoxic to lung carcinoma cells (A-549); the mixture of 4 and 5 was selectively cytotoxic for the lung (A-549), colon (HT-29), and pancreatic (PACA-2) cell lines with potencies equal to or exceeding those of Adriamycin.
One of the documented mechanisms of action of Graviola is by decreasing energy to abnormal cells (ATP-inhibitor). Taking supplements that increase cellular energy, such as CoQ10, will counteract or disable this one mechanism of action of Graviola.

GRAVIOLA FORTE

This is the combination of the species Annona muricata and Annona montana.
Since Graviola (Annona muricata) does not contain all the acetogenins, combining it with the Montana species considerably increases the working constituents.

 

Precaution & contra-indications

Not to be used during pregnancy due to possible uterine stimulant activity.
Contraindicated for people with low blood pressure (it may posses’ hypotensive, vasodilator, and cardio depressant activities).
It may also potentiate antidepressant drugs and interfere with MAO-inhibitor drugs.
Long-term use of Graviola might lead to some die-off of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract. Supplementing the diet with digestive enzymes may be helpful to counteract this possible effect.

Chinese Maca

 

Chinese companies offering to sell Maca in the U.S..  At first I thought that they were re-selling Peruvian Maca, but further research revealed that these companies were selling Chinese grown Maca products. A quick search on one of the world’s leading import/export websites reveals over 3700 different companies listed that export Maca from China.

 

 All of the research we had seen showed that while Maca plants can be grown at lower elevations these plants fail to produce roots of any significant size.   Little did we know that the mountains in the Yunan province of China reach elevations above the 14,000 feet ( M) at which Maca plants do produce roots.   Indeed, Chinese farmers have imported seeds from Peru and are growing Maca roots.  But there are some major issues with these products.

 Fake Maca

First, we’ve discovered in China that laboratories are actually producing a synthetic form of Maca and trying to pass it off as authentic Maca root.  This would be like creating a wheat flour substitute in the lab and then selling it as the real deal.   Needless to say you want to avoid anything synthetic when it comes to your food.

 Contaminated Maca

The unfortunate reality is that these foods carry a high risk of contamination.   China is one of the most heavily polluted countries in the world.

 

China’s own Ministry of The Environment admits that 19.4% of its arable land has been heavily contaminated by toxic heavy metals

82.8% of non-organic produce in China exceeds the government’s own heavy metal limits

60% of China’s groundwater is now too polluted to drink

Cadmium and Lead have been found in Chinese superfoods purchased at Whole Foods

Based on this information, anyone who cares about health should avoid eating any food produced in China.   Still, knowing that Maca grows at higher elevations, someone might argue that this type of contamination might not affect Maca production.  While that could be true, it’s important to keep in mind  three facts about the Yunnan province where Maca is grown:

Yunnan has been exempted from the requirement to curb pollution.

           

Third, we’ve recently learned from a powerful documentary, that the Chinese already hold 7 GMO patents on Maca.  That means that there is now way to tell if Maca from China is GMO free or not.  Remember,Peru has banned GMOs at least until 2021.

Finally,  Maca originated in the high Andes of Peru and is a national heritage food of Peru.   Since 2003 it has been illegal to transport whole roots or seeds outside of Peru.  And yet, Maca is currently grown in China.   According to the documentary report listed above,Maca cultivated in China certainly came seeds smuggled out of Peru.   What is more, China apparently does not acknowledge this nor does it have any contract with Peru to grow Maca.  To buy Chinese grown Maca is to support this type of practice in our opinon.

HOW TO KNOW WHERE YOUR MACA COMES FROM

All quality sellers of Maca should list where their Maca comes from right on the label.   If they don’t it may be that they are using inferior quality Chinese Maca.   Please find out for sure before you purchase.  

It is my opinion that only authentic Peruvian Maca is the one you should consume. It is

safe and non-GMO, and we know this because Peru is a GMO free country. Peruvian Maca has no chemical, no pesticides. Health is the foundation of good living.

Moringa – The Tree of Life part 2

Moringa Oleifera is indigenous to the  sub-Himalayan regions of North West  India.  It ranges in height from 5 – 10 meters.  This fast growing, drought-tolerant Moringa Oleifera can tolerate poor soil, a wide rainfall range (25-300 + cm per year).  when fully mature, dried seeds are round or triangular in shape and the kernel is surrounded by a lightly wooded shell with three papery wings. Moringa seeds contain between 33 and 41% of vegetable oil which is high in oleic acid  ( >70% ).  Moringa Oleifera has many medicinal uses and significant nutritional value.

Why should someone use Moringa

Different parts of this plant contain a profile of important minerals, and are a good source of protein, vitamins, beta-carotene, amino acids, and various penolics. the Moringa plant provides a rich and rare combination of zeatin, quercetin, beta-sitosterol, caffeoylquinic acid and kaempferol.  Moringa is very important for its medicinal value. Various parts of this plant such as the leaves, roots, seeds, bark, flowers and pods act as cardiac and circulatory stimulants, possess anti-tumor, anti-pyretic, anti-epileptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-spasmadic, diuretic, anti-hypertensive, anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, diuretic, hepatoprotective, antibacterial, and antifungal activities, and are being employed for the treatment of different ailments in many of the global indigenous systems of the world.

The humble Moringa seed is a sleeping giant that is just now reaching America.  Eating a few has a very cleansing and energizing effect. Moringa seed are known world wide for their effectiveness in purifying water. the seeds are considered to have anti-biotic properties. they are used in some countries to treat fevers.  A past of crushed Moringa seeds is used to eliminate warts and there is evidence to suggest that the seeds are anti-fungal, anti-viral, antiseptic and antibacterial.

Moringa leaves are the most medicinal part of the tree and can be eaten fresh,cooked or consumed as dried powder (smoothies, in juice, water or sprinkled over salad).  Analysis of the leaf composition has revealed them to have significant quantities of vitamins A, B and C, calcium, iron and protein.  Moringa leaves are small, thick, and tear drop shaped.  As a nutritional supplement, the leaves are harvested and dried at a low temperature, ensuring the nutrients remain intact in the leaf tissue. Once dried, Moringa leaves are pulverized into a fine powder-like consistency, making them easy to pack and more readily available for health-conscious individuals.

The roots of the Moringa tree can be eaten only after the bark has been removed and then with caution as safe levels have not been established.  Gram for gram, Moringa leaves contain seven times the vitamin C of oranges, two times the protein in milk, four times the calcium in milk, four times the vitamin A in carrots, and three times the potassium in bananas.

Its complete name is Moringa oleifera and it is not yet well known here in the U.S.  Moringa contains high amounts of protein, all of the eight essential amino acids, a full spectrum of minerals and vitamins and a tremendous amount of phytonutrients as well as other  disease-fighting antioxidants.  Native of the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Northern India, it is now being cultivated throughout South and Central America, and Africa. this is because its such an excellent food source with high nutritional content, not to mention it medicinal uses.

Moringa Properties

According to various reports including one in the Manila Bulletin, Moringa contains seven times the vitamin C typically found in oranges, Four times the vitamin A found in carrots, 36 times the amount of magnesium in eggs, 25 times the iron found in spinach, and 50 times the vitamin B2 in bananas. Every part of this plant, including the bark, leaves, flowers, seeds, pods, roots, has a unique purpose in promoting human health.  All of the aforementioned, are continually being subjected to research and development programs.  The reason is that its been found that the properties of Moringa oleifera are known to have anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-tumor, and anti-aging active properties. Moringa leaf can be dried and ground up into a nutrient dense powder. Moringa organic powder has a long shelf life.

Summery

Moringa Organic  Powder is my first choice. mixes well in smoothies (one or two teaspoons). It can be sprinkled on salads, added to lentils or soups.  One concern I have is that the root is considered anti-tumor or cancer  because (at least in part) it is anti-estrogenic and anti- progestrogenic, these two properties are in essence uni-fertility. So if you are trying to get pregnant you should avoid the Moringa root and bark.  For a woman suffering from estrogen dominance, it may help balance the estrogen levels. References:

Iodine is utilized by every hormone receptor in the body. The absence of iodine causes a hormonal dysfunction that can be seen with practically every hormone inside the body. Dr. Flechas has recently been able to show that patients with insulin resistant diabetes have a partial to full remission of their illness in the presence of taking iodine. Iodine deficiency is also felt to be the source of ovarian cysts.With iodine replacement therapy the cysts disappear and women have stopped having ovarian cysts.”-All cells in the body need iodine for proper functioning. All glands (thyroid, adrenal, etc.) especially need iodine for the production of hormones. Iodine levels

Iodine levels in US soil have fallen 50 per cent over the past 50 years and soil in the US is deficient in iodine. The Great Lakes region has some of lowest soil iodine levels in the world and this results in high levels of cancers related to iodine deficiency. Dr. Brownstein has been quite successful in treating fibrocystic breast disease (cysts in the breast) with iodine/iodine supplementation.  Women with large breasts need more iodine than women with smaller breasts. Other medical authorities agree that iodine deficiency can lead to fibrocystic breast disease and/or ovarian cysts iodine can similarly remove uterine fibroidsand one of the first conventional medical treatments for severe fibrosis was to paint the uterus with iodine.  Some other medical conditions associated with iodine deficiency are goiters, Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto’s Disease, fatigue and impaired immune system function. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy can lead to miscarriages and reduced IQ in surviving offspring. The World Health Organization says that iodine deficiency is the largest single cause of mental retardation. Iodine also detoxifies the body by removing mercury, fluorides, chlorides and bromides.

A consequence of this is that minute amounts of the heavy metal mercury are continuously being released into the mouth and absorbed into the body. In order for these detoxification mechanisms to work properly, numerous essential minerals are utilized. The protective function of Iodine in these tissues has not been described, but the fact that these tissues when healthy are replete with Iodine, and when diseased have little or no Iodine, leads one to think there is more than a causal link.”
